Yachting holidays in Mallorca

Last week I got an e-mail from my friend Elvis, he moved to Majorca five years ago, he wrote me that he took fancy to a sailing boat, Elvis has always been an old sea dog or at least that's what he thinks, anyway, now with this boat he will have the chance to prove he is right, in theory, this boat was a real bargain, 22 years old but according to the papers just 120 hours in the water.Elvis wrote: "Isolde, it just need a small tune-up and it'll be ready cross the oceans", the plan, or actually, his plan was that we fly to Mallorca and my husband - Helmut could help him with the last works of the boat's tune-up, afterwards we would sail around Majorca, wow! -  I thought, I do know Mallorca very well, I have been holidaying in this beautiful island since I was a kid and always dreamt to see the island from "the other side", discovering all those secluded coves, the dramatic and steep west coast... actually, it would have been very easy to make this dream come true as the island is full of marinas and yacht harbours with tons of yacht brokers however for one reason or another I never had the chance to make it but now thanks to Elvis, my dream would come true.So without hesitation I booked our flights to Mallorca and a lovely holiday apartment in Puerto Andratx for one week because according to the plan, Elvis and Helmut would need one week to make the final works in the boat and then, off to the Mediterranean!. We decided to stay in Puerto Andratx for several reasons, first because we spent our honeymoon there, we always loved it and second, because Elvis lives in a small villa in Camp de Mar which is just 5 kilometres away from Puerto Andratx, we usually stay by him but since last year, Elvis has a girlfriend - Sandra, they live together since two months, Sandra is a painter and what used to be the guest bedroom is now Sandra's atelier so they have no spare room for guets.

A couple of weeks after having booked the flights and apartment and just ten days prior to our departure a new e-mail from Elvis arrives: "the tune-up will take longer than expected, the boat was not as well I thought", what!?, my dream was going down the drain, Helmut was on a business trip in Singapore, I was not sure how to tell him, he had had some exhausting months at work and he was really looking forward to this holiday in Majorca, next time he phoned me he immediately felt that something was happening, first I didn't want to tell him but then I thought  it was better to tell him otherwise he would be too worried, Helmut is the kind of person who always tries to see the sunny side in everything and told me not to cancel the flights. Two days later I went to pick him up at the airport, we were in the car on the way home Helmut gave me a pack of anti-seasickness tablets, what's this for? - I asked, for Majorca - he replied, then he smiled and showed me a voucher from a yacht broker in Puerto Portals and told me... your dream will come true!.
