Manacor

Manacor is the second biggest city in Mallorca with a population of 26,000. Located 55 kilometres east of Palma de Mallorca and just around 13 kilometres from the sea. Manacor is famous for its artificial pearls factories, for its furniture shops and lately for being the home town of the tennis player Rafa Nadal. The old part of the town has been lovingly renovated, the winding narrow streets, grand gothic church Nostra Senyora dels Dolors which was built at the end of the 19th century with it 75 metres high bell tower has become a real icon of the town.

Manacor offers a wealth of historical remains including important prehistoric sites from as far back as the Talaiotic era (1,200 to 900 BC). Unearthed treasures can be viewed in Manacor's History Museum situated in the Enagistes tower.

Manacor is a pretty lively town with an atmospheric old town with historic buildings with ochre roofs, sun-baked walls and wooden shutters, wonderful restaurants and café-bars. Lively and cosmopolitan Monday market selling arts, crafts, fruit and vegetables and locally produced specialities.

The municipality of Manacor has some other well worth visiting spots, all of them just a short drive away, the Drach's Caves in the lovely fishing town of Porto Cristo which are a major tourist attraction. The bustling resort of Cala Millor,  the largest and liveliest resort on the east coast of Mallorca, holidays in Cala Millor very much focus on the superb long sandy Cala Millor beach with its pleasant waterfront promenade, this beach is considered one of the finest beaches in the island. The resort of Cala Murada is pretty small with a fine sandy beach which has been awarded by the Blue Flag status for its cleanliness and quality of its water, the beach slopes gently into the sea offering safe bathing for children.

Overall, Manacor is an fantastic holiday base ideally located for a taste of traditional Spain, yet the coast and a large selection of fantastic beaches and sandy coves are just a short distance in the car.
